Making Music Heard
As a conductor, every day I am confronted with the fact that music from living composers is missing from the concert programs of our orchestras. Fascinating works remain unplayed, wonderful sounds go unheard and the repetition of a limited repertoire leaves the orchestra's and the audience's hunger for new, profound musical experiences unsatisfied. After centuries of growth and development, our orchestral culture is gradually becoming little more than a museum showcase. With nomus21, I wish to encourage orchestras, curators and audiences to open themselves to the power and sensuality of new orchestral music. My aim is to expand the repertoire of our orchestras and to inspire composers to once again focus their creativity and imagination on the symphonic timbres of large ensembles – to help ensure a vibrant future for our orchestras.
